Right before this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival, we launched a new website all about barbecue know-how: www.BBQnotes.tw. Whether it’s a holiday or a spontaneous outing, barbecuing with friends has always been a beloved tradition — but we noticed that while there’s no shortage of tips online about prep, fire-starting, and grilling techniques, the information is scattered and hard to navigate. With enthusiastic support from the whole team, we decided to tackle the issue and create something fun and useful.
This site actually came out of a broader idea: we’d been brainstorming everyday topics we found interesting and wanted to explore through a combination of visual design and web technology. There are still a few concepts we hope to realize when time allows:
In the early stages, we took an online course on infographic design from 圖文不符, which really helped shape our thinking and organize our content. We chose to present everything using multimedia web design to make the information engaging and digestible. The course also helped focus our discussions and gave us a clearer direction.
Site goal: After going through our curated content, first-time grillers should feel excited and empowered to try it themselves, while seasoned pros will be crowned "BBQ master" by their friends.
From research and surveys to hands-on grilling experiments, we did it all — alongside illustration, design, and front-end development, tweaking and fine-tuning until it was ready to launch.
We ended up loving the project so much that we even made a custom deck of BBQ-themed playing cards. We didn’t print many, so most of them are still sitting in our office — maybe it’s time for a giveaway for fellow fans who feel as passionate about this project as we do.
